Associate Spotlight: Nicholas Lawrence

Nicholas has worked in a variety of departments, ranging from Residential Lending to his current role as an engineer and analyst for Information Security (InfoSec). Join us as we find out his favorite superhero and how his experience is pivotal to the safety of the bank’s computing environment.

How long have you worked at Fremont Bank, and what do you do here?

I have been with the bank for seven years, and I started out as a Customer Care representative in the Residential Lending department. Today, as an engineer and analyst for the InfoSec department, I am responsible for maintaining the health of our security devices and monitoring activity for anomalies. I actively prevent and respond to potential threats to the bank’s computing environment. Additionally, I help to train the newest InfoSec team members, test associates’ phishing knowledge and ensure that new hires are up to date on security awareness. My role also extends to project security, the vendor management process, and business continuity planning and training.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

What I enjoy the most about my job is when I see configuration changes working as intended or when I learn from the team and see changes were completed successfully, as all of this helps ensure that the bank is protected and that our devices are working properly to combat the ever-evolving digital threats that exist today.

What’s your greatest strength as a business professional?

My greatest strength is being a committed team player. I like finding the camaraderie on a team through communicating, meeting and training with the team, working on projects and assignments with them, and learning from them, as this allows the team and me to work as a more solid unit. I like my team knowing that they can count on me when needed. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Who is your favorite superhero?

Batman is my favorite superhero, because in a world in which superpowers exist, someone without superpowers rises time after time to protect everyone else from the bad guys. Plus, he is super cool!

What’s a favorite phrase or piece of advice, and what does it mean to you?

“Your focus determines your reality.” This is important to me because:

  • Even during difficult times, by choosing what I focus on, I am able to overcome the obstacles in my path.
  • Remaining focused on the task at hand, and having the strength to remain focused on that task, whatever the task may be. It’s a reminder that the best way to move efficiently in a professional setting to achieve success is to take the time, slow down and do the job right the first time around. Sometimes taking a different approach to find another way to achieve the result or goal is the correct way forward.
