Overdraft Services

Debit Card Overdraft Services

Overdraft services include how Fremont Bank handles transactions that overdraw your account. If you would like to have your transactions approved at our discretion, consider adding Debit Card Overdraft Service to your checking account, which may help you to avoid ATM and everyday debit card declines. It's free to enroll in the service but if we authorize and pay overdrafts on an ATM or everyday debit card transaction, an overdraft fee will apply.

Debit Card Overdraft Services

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:

  1. We have standard overdrafts practices that come with your account.
  2. We also offer overdraft protection plans, such as a link to a savings account, which may be less expensive than our standard practices. To learn more, ask us about these plans.
The notices below explain our standard overdraft practices.

What are the standard overdraft practices that come with my account?

We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments

We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you ask us to (see below):

  • ATM transactions
  • Everyday debit card transactions

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction.

If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

What fees will I be charged if Fremont Bank pays my overdraft?

Under our standard overdraft practices:

  • We will charge you a fee of $30 for the first 7 items in the most recent 12-month period, $35 each for 8 or more items, maximum charge of 5 items per day for any combination of paid or returned items.
  • Also, if your account is overdrawn for 10 or more consecutive business days, we will charge an additional $6.00 per day.
  • There is no limit on the total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account.
  • All fees, including but not limited to NSF/OD fees, will be included in and count against your assigned Overdraft Privilege Limit.
