Enhanced Security for your Debit Cards

Fremont Bank offers debit cards with chip technology. The embedded microchip provides increased security and wider international acceptance.

Information programmed into the chip is personalized for your account and each transaction at a chip-enabled terminal generates a unique transaction code that provides added protection against unauthorized use and counterfeiting.

Follow these steps to use your card at a chip-enabled terminal:
Insert your card Follow the instructions Remove your card*
Insert Chip Card Enter PIN Remove Card
Insert your card chip first into the chip-enabled terminal. With the chip transactions, your card remains in the terminal throughout your transaction Follow the prompts on the terminal and wait for the transaction to be processed. You may be required to enter your PIN or sign to complete the transaction.  After the transaction is completed and you are prompted to do so, remove your card from the terminal.
*If you remove your card before prompted by the terminal, your transaction may be canceled.

At retailers without chip-enabled terminals: Swipe your card to make your purchase, just as you do today. Chip cards will continue to have the magnetic stripe on the back.
Over the phone or online: Provide your card information the way you always have when you're ready to make a purchase. Chip cards will not change the way payments are made online or by telephone.

At an ATM: The process is essentially the same as at a merchant. Insert your card, leave it in the ATM, and follow the prompts on the screen. Depending on the type of ATM, you might be prompted to re-insert your card. Leave the card in the ATM until the transaction is complete and the card is released and then remove your card. A PIN is needed for ATM transactions.
