Most people hear “Boys & Girls Club” and think of ping pong and foosball. Not anymore. Leaders at the Boys & Girls Club of San Leandro (BGCSL) understand that to truly provide support and skill development for our youth, they had to modernize and help kids develop current, real-world skills.
Vision 2020 Re-Build is a project that will revitalize the Teen Center and Community Hub at the BCGSL, located at 401 Marina Blvd., San Leandro, by the end of 2020. This new facility will serve thousands of students each year and turn their dated space into a connected center, equipped with modern tools like 3D printers, to truly engage local youth and help them stay relevant in today’s world.
Embarking on a project of this scale is no easy task, and the BGCSL needed help. So we listened, acted, and the Fremont Bank Foundation helped provide the necessary capital they needed to complete this project.
On August 27, 2019, the BGCSL was able to break ground and advance their mission to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential and become productive citizens.
Stay tuned, as we will be creating a follow-up video and update when the renovation is complete!
According to the Afterschool Alliance, 68% of students who attend an after-school program improve their homework completion and class participation. Sixty percent of students improve their behavior in class. If you think back to your own childhood and adolescence, you’ll probably agree that it’s important for all school-age kids to have access to a safe, productive place to go after school.
But for many students in the Bay Area, after-school enrichment is not always accessible. Thankfully, the Boys & Girls Club of San Leandro has filled this gap and has been a second home for these students for over 50 years. We look forward to seeing what the future has in store for them!
