Small Business Spotlight: Pete's ACE Hardware

Linda and Jeff

Pete’s ACE Hardware in Castro Valley has been family-owned and operated for 90 years. Linda and Jeff Roark are the third generation family owners; Pete was actually Linda’s grandfather. Linda and Jeff enjoy being able to help the community build, maintain and repair their homes and businesses.
Linda and Jeff were high school sweethearts, they even worked at the hardware store when they were teenagers. When Linda’s father was ready to retire, he called on Linda and Jeff to take over the family business.
Hardware stores can be intimidating but not Pete’s. The friendly staff is always willing to take you to the product you came in for or offer helpful advice. From new keys to plumbing supplies, gardening to paint and way more, Pete’s has the products for all your projects, large or small.
Friendly Hardware Store

The Roark’s brought their banking to Fremont Bank in 2007 after doing some research and being referred by a friend and fellow business owner. They really appreciate the personal service and partnership that Fremont Bank delivers. “As a client, I can say this is what I need, what are you able to do? – then Fremont Bank will try to accommodate the need,” said Linda Roark.
Linda and Jeff have been able to grow their business by building a warehouse, storage facility and conference room with the help of financing provided by Fremont Bank. This has enabled them to expand inventory and further serve the needs of the community.

4th Generation
What’s next for Pete’s ACE Hardware? Linda and Jeff are always updating inventory in the store, including Linda’s new “dishtowels with attitude” displayed at the front of the store. Linda and Jeff have also been working with their son Jason who will soon be the fourth generation owner.
