FREMONT, Calif., July 6, 2015—
Fremont Bank, a leading full-service community bank in California, plans to upgrade all Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) to help protect clients’ financial information starting Friday, July 10, 2015. This ATM upgrade is the first step in making consumer payments more secure.
The ATMs will be updated with the latest technology to accept chip-enabled debit and credit cards. The next step in this process will be to update all of the bank’s consumer debit cards with chip-enabled cards, scheduled for early 2016.
“Across the organization we’re looking for opportunities to improve our client’s experience,” said Patti Greenup, vice president of retail operations. “The updated ATMs are not only more secure, they are also more technologically advanced. Funds will be immediately available for cash deposits and up to $200 for check deposits. Fremont Bank clients will also be able to change their Personal Identification Number (PIN) at the terminal.”
The Fremont Bank debit card network will be changing from Star to Accel. Fremont Bank debit cardholders will continue to have access to the surcharge-free
Allpoint Network ATMs.
In order to complete the upgrade, the ATM will be out of service from 8:00am to 5:00pm on the scheduled date below.

Fremont Bank cardholders will soon be able to take advantage of the added security of a chip card. Chip cards contain an embedded microchip in addition to the traditional magnetic stripe. The key security element of the microchip involves dynamic digital data in every transaction making it virtually impossible to replicate. This dynamic authentication greatly reduces the risk of fraud, making payments not only smarter but also safer.
