Fremont Bank Receives San Francisco Business Times Corporate Philanthropy Award

Bank named one of the Bay Area’s most generous corporations for tenth straight year

FREMONT, Calif., July 29, 2013 - Fremont Bank, a leading full-service community bank in California, has been named one of the top 75 most generous corporate philanthropists in the Bay Area by the San Francisco Business Times. The year’s award marks the tenth straight year that Fremont Bank has been honored at the newspaper’s annual Corporate Philanthropy Awards & Summit.

“Giving back to local communities is one of Fremont Bank’s core values,” said Hattie Hyman Hughes, Fremont Bank executive vice president, Nonprofit Group. “Through our Corporate Giving Program and the Fremont Bank Foundation, we continue to partner with outstanding organizations committed to making a positive difference in local communities.”

Fremont Bank moved up 16 spots to 38th on this year’s San Francisco Business Times list, and was recognized by the newspaper as the company that “saw the most generous increase in contributions with a 189 percent jump over 2011” cash giving. This jump in monetary contributions won the bank the Levi Strauss & Co. Community Commitment Award, which is given to companies that give over one percent of their profits to Bay Area nonprofits each year. According to the Council on Foundations, one percent of pretax profits is considered the national benchmark for charitable giving best practices. Fremont Bank was one of only 10 top corporate philanthropists to receive this select award when it was first introduced by the San Francisco Business Times in 2006. Twenty companies received the award this year.

Fremont Bank funds local charities through its Nonprofit Group, which administers the bank’s Corporate Giving Program and the Fremont Bank Foundation. Information about these programs can be found at
